Level 1 — Early Concern

First Faces Staff Reflection & Readiness Tool

Connection Before Correction. A reflection and implementation tool, not an evaluation. Use it before First Faces professional learning to identify strengths, questions, and support needs; use it again after implementation to see what has changed.

When completed

Readiness — WELCOME

I consistently create a positive first interaction for students arriving or returning after an absence.
I can welcome a late or returning student without creating embarrassment or shame.

Readiness — CONNECT

I notice meaningful changes in a student’s attendance, arrival pattern, mood, or engagement.
I intentionally reconnect a returning student to the classroom and learning.

Readiness — DISCOVER

I can ask about an attendance concern using curiosity rather than assumptions.
I understand the difference between an attendance behavior and a possible underlying barrier.

Readiness — RESPOND

I know what to do when a student or family tells me about an attendance barrier.
I know who or what team should receive an attendance/support concern at my site.
I understand what is my responsibility to support and what should be handed off to another staff member.

Readiness — FOLLOW-UP

I understand that a referral is not complete until someone owns the next step and the support loop is closed.

Reflect before we train
